Design and craftsmanship

Simon Muir is a graduate of the Edinburgh College of Art with over twenty years experience making bespoke pieces of furniture and kitchens.

Simon’s passionate about design, architecture and craftsmanship, particularly from contemporary mid-century designers such as Alvar Aalto and George Nelson as well as the arts and crafts movement in the early 20th century. Muir uses an unusual combination of European and African timbers alongside Formica and other contemporary materials to produce furniture that is modern as well as elegant.

Based in a red brick building in the heart of Edinburgh (near Easter Road) that was part of a former lemonade factory, his studio and workshop sits alongside other craftspersons and makers adding to the character of the location.

Simon is also a passionate cyclist racing competitively and passionate about the outdoors and cooking, often combining both on adventures in the wilds of Scotland.
